If you are a young BMW with a diesel engine, the chances are that you will soon be a letter from the local dealer with the request for you to sign. In the Netherlands, 6.764 cars recalled in the control, due to possible fire hazard.

After a few autobranden in South Korea, BMW has decided to worldwide cars to recall it to the garage for a control. In the Netherlands it goes to 6.764 cars, all diesel cars of recent model years. It concerns the BMW 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 Series and the X3, X4, X5 and X6. The four-cylinder diesel engines comes to cars between april 2015 and september 2016 are produced. For the zescilinders is the production date of the cars concerned, between July 2012 and June 2015. If you are not sure when your car was produced, and whether a four or six cylinder engine, then you can verify this by your registration on the website of the public service of the RDW.

Models: 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6 Engines: four – and six-cylinder diesel Built: apr 2015 – mar 2016 (viercilinders), jul 2012 – jun 2015 (zescilinders)

The problem that can occur is caused by the EGR cooler. From the cooling system may leak fluids that mixes with oil and carbon. This mixture can go to smolder, causing the intake manifold may melt. In exceptional cases there can be even a fire occur, such as in some cars in South Korea has happened.

The EGR cooler is part of the EGR system, that all modern diesel engines and reduces emissions of harmful oxides of nitrogen. The cooler lowers the temperature of the exhaust gas before the engine is run.

BMW rolls out the recall in the coming weeks, the relevant owners will receive automated message. The control and possible replacement of parts is free.
